Route 66 Fanfare (2016)
Fund for Teachers is a wonderful organization that enables teachers to run wild with their own unique professional development ideas. In 2016, I was given a Fund for Teachers fellowship to take a 28 day road trip down Route 66 to study how the highway impacted the cultural landscape of America. This piece is a tribute to that old American highway stretching 2,000 miles from Chicago to L.A.
Each individual part has been differentiated in order to provide flexible challenges for the players. Part 2 is geared toward a second or third year middle school band, whereas Part 1 sets the difficulty closer to a high school ensemble. These parts are interchangeable within each section of the ensemble and should be chosen by the individual players.
Live recording captured from a reading band session with the Troy High School Symphonic Band (Brian Nutting, cond). All players were performing Pt. 1.
